CivicGuard today announced new retention controls that let public-sector customers choose reviewed seven- or fourteen-day lifecycles for official-fleet events, with shorter periods available by policy.

The update adds written justification, designated approval, and automatic expiration for any event placed on legal or investigative hold. Every change appears in the customer’s administrative audit log. Early adopters included three council offices that had previously asked for shorter retention on their own vehicles only.

Designed for minimization

Customers can apply one policy across an organization or set shorter periods for specific device groups. CivicOS now surfaces approaching deletion dates and identifies events subject to a documented hold.

“A system should not keep information merely because it can. The default should be to know what is necessary, then let it go.”

— Elena Ruiz, Chief Trust & Compliance Officer

Availability

The controls are available to all CivicOS customers beginning today. New accounts use the seven-day default. Published, board-approved schedules may select 1–30 days, including the fourteen-day preset; documented holds require an approver and expiry. Administrative audit records remain separate for seven years.
